The Norwegian Hunt. February 2010.
Our friends and clients from Norway joined us again on the 14th of February, the group consisted of:
Aun Egil, Gry Anderson, Katharina and Jardar Vikor Kjartan, Line and Arian Vikor Bjarne, Magrete, Anette and Cecilie Oydvin
The trip consisted of two parts, the first a four day stay at the Kruger National Park and the second an 8 day hunting safari at Lowlands.
Kruger National Park.
After collecting the clients at OR Tambo International we hurried off to the Kruger Park. We were hard pressed for time and only just made it into the gates in time. Our first night was spent at Mopani Rest Camp. The next day we again ventured further North to Sereni Rest Camp. A good sighting of Elephant we had at Grootvlei Dam. Over 100 Elephant came in to drink and swim in the heat of the day. Temperatures reached 42 degrees. We also had a brief but good sighting of Cheetah near the Sereni Rest Camp. The next day we set off for Satara Rest Camp in the central park and stopped of at Letaba too swim and curio shop. The daily temp reached 45 degrees. We reached Satara and the temperature at 8.30 in the evening was 37!!! Very warm day. We had good sightings of Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo, Tsessebe and Waterbuck. The following day the kids and ladies chose to rest while we attended to a few vehicle problems that led us to Phalaborwa. We had sightings of White Rhino, Buffalo and Lion. We had a very good sighting of a Buffalo herd on the Timbavati road. Herd was about 300 to 400 animals. The next day we set off for Lowlands and left the Kruger Park behind, I think the hunters now desperate to get into the field!!
Lowlands.
Aun Egil, Gry, Bjarne, Kjartan and Line were bow hunting and Magrete, Anette, Katharina and Jardar were up for there first African hunts and first hunts ever. We had a great time and the guys shot brilliantly.
Aun Egil shooting a HOME MADE traditional bow with hand crafted broad heads took a 75kg Bushpig at Dalton PGR. An awesome hunt and achievement with his own equipment.
Gry shooting a 50 pound Mathews Drenalin did very well and shot a Zebra Stallion at Bushmens River Wildlife Reserve and later harvested a Springbuck. She shot very well and used a two blade mechanical broadhead.
Bjarne experienced his first African hunt and did very well shooting Impala, Blesbuck and Springbuck. We was shooting a PSE Firestorm Light with Slick Trick Broad heads.
Kjartan had his mind set on a Kudu Bull and he achieved this on the third day. Guided by Sean and Roy they had a great time and numerous opportunities. He also shot a Nyala female and a Warthog, unfortunately the Warthog was not hit well and was not located after a lengthy search.
Line was a late starter and took to a blind on the last two days; she how ever was unsuccessful but saw Ostrich, Blue Wildebeest and Warthog from the blind.
Our group of first timers had great success they all shot a Krico 243 and shot very well. It is always difficult teaching children but in this case more so as there was a strong language barrier. They how ever did brilliantly.
Magrete, Katharina and Jardar all shot Blesbuck and Anette a very nice Impala ram.
All in all a very successful trip and my thanks to the Lowlands Pro Hunters and staff.
Until next time!!!
Interesting fact: When the clients left Norway it was minus 18 and there was 65cm of snow. The first day in Kruger was 42!! That is a 60 degree difference in temp in one day!!!!
